Wolf Lake Neighbors Foundation donates supplies for new “Care Closet” at KLR

Thanks to the generosity of the Wolf Lake Neighbors Foundation (WLNF), students at the Kenneth L. Rutherford Elementary School will have a safe place to go if they’re in need of soap, a clean pair of pants, a toothbrush, or a variety of other necessities.

When the WLNF reached out to KLR teacher Carolyn Rojas, asking how they could help students be successful, Ms. Rojas immediately knew the answer – a Care Closet. A Care Closet is a discreet place for students in need to stock up on clean clothes, toiletries, and other basic care needs. The WLNF then raised $600 and purchased a host of items to get the Care Closet up and running. On Monday, Oct. 21 WLNF member Jean Eifert dropped off the supplies and helped stock the closet for the first time.

“We’re so appreciative of WLNF’s support in getting our Care Closet up and running,” Ms. Rojas said. “So many of our families struggle to afford these basic needs, and students who are forced to go without can feel uncomfortable and distracted in the classroom. It’s our hope that with the help of the Care Closet, all of our students will be able to feed confident and focused in school and beyond.”

If you are the family member of a KLR student who is in need, or, if you’d like to donate to the Care Closet, please contact Ms. Rojas at CRojas@k12mcsd.net
