“Karen shines in empowering students through personalized teaching, nurturing their confidence and ensuring vibrant learning experiences, while also creatively tackling challenges and fostering inclusive, collaborative environments as a leader among K-5 special education teachers,” Allie Billias, MCSD Assistant Director of Pupil Personnel Services wrote in her letter nominating Ms. Crofoot.  “Her dedication to tailoring learning experiences ensures each student not only succeeds but thrives, evidenced by palpable impacts on their growth and achievement. Her commitment to inclusivity and transparency enriches both educational practices and community bonds, leaving a lasting positive impact on students, families, and colleagues alike.”

Here is Ms. Crofoot, in her own words, describing her reaction to receiving this award:

While it is extremely gratifying and humbling knowing that my hard work and dedication to my students and their education has been recognized and appreciated, this award is a reflection of the collective efforts of all the educators who work tirelessly to inspire, educate, and support students on a daily basis — especially those that work by my side every single day. Without them, I would never be receiving this award. Thank you Hollie Hall, Dina Cooper, Caitlin Mann and Michelle Costello. You make room 207 super special and successful.

Monticello CSD has definitely become my family over the last 20 years. It has laughed and it has cried with me. I am extremely lucky to have worked with the best administrators and colleagues, many who have become dear friends. The most gratifying part of my years at MCSD, aside from the friendships I have formed, is having the opportunity to make a positive impact on the lives of young children. Being able to nurture their curiosity, inspire their love for learning, and help them develop essential skills and knowledge is incredibly fulfilling

It is also gratifying to see the progress and growth that my students make throughout their school years. Witnessing their achievements, both academically and personally, and knowing that you played a role in their development is truly rewarding. The joy and excitement that children express when they learn something new or accomplish a task they thought was challenging is priceless. Their smiles melt your heart. My students and their families are entwined in my heart for life.

I am blessed to work with the best colleagues, students and families. I am blessed to be an educator. I truly love my job.
