RJK Library Rules and Policies

Library Rules:

  • Be sure to follow the overall school rules when in the library space, including walking (not running) and always being respectful to other people, the library space, materials, and to yourself. The library is a safe space for all who enter and being disrespectful will not be accepted.
  • Always have a teacher call the library to make sure a class is not in session before coming up to work or browse.
  • Please do not bring any food or drink into the library.
  • Please do not take pictures or videos in the library, this includes making calls on FaceTime or making TikTok and other videos.
  • Cell phones should be kept away during work time. If you need to make a call, please see the librarian to use the school phone or to ask to step out of the library to make one.

*Violation of these rules may result in temporary suspension from library usage. *

Library Policies and Procedures:

  • Books may be borrowed by students and staff, up to 2 books at a time, for up to 2 weeks.
  • Books may be renewed twice, as long as there are no holds on the title.
  • While browsing, if you pull a book from a shelf, please return it to the same spot you took it from or return it to the “In-House” cart to be reshelved properly. If a book is returned to the wrong spot, it makes it difficult for others who need it to find it.
  • When you check out a book, you are responsible for its safe return. Damaged or lost books will need to be replaced.
  • If you have overdue or lost books that have not been settled on your account, you will not be permitted to borrow any others from the shelves. You WILL still have access to all digital resources, including SORA eBooks and any databases to which RJK is subscribed.
  • Extensions on time or number of books borrowed for class projects can be made. Please see the librarian to make arrangements.
  • If you are looking for materials that are not in the collection, please reach out to the librarian to see if it’s possible to get the materials added or if they can be loaned from another library.
  • All library policies for collection development and maintenance are determined by the district’s Board of Education and can be found on the BoardDocs policy page: MCSD Policy Manual
