Nine Monticello High School senior students officially became alumni on Friday, Aug. 16 at the summer school graduation ceremony.
Barbara Brown, John Cruz, Sebastian Fernandez, Thalia Hayes, Thomas Liciaga, Anthony Osisami, Tyler Plaster, Melanie Robinson and Alan Smith received their diplomas, as family and friends cheered from the audience.
Senior class speaker Melanie Robinson spoke to her classmates about the importance of overcoming challenges and thanked the educators, administrators and leaders who helped guide the students towards their goals
“Hope carries you through your most difficult times, but hope is not what got you here today—action did.” Superintendent of Schools Tammy Mangus said, as she addressed the graduates. “Action changes lives. And so the message I’ve given to every graduating class since the day I walked in the door is this – don’t hope for great things. Do great things.”
