A visit from a hero

Nov. 30, 2017

The second grade students at George L. Cooke Elementary School learned about Veterans Day directly from a veteran.

Air Force veteran John Lacy talks to Cooke studentsAir Force veteran John Lacy, who happens to be the grandfather of second grade student Joshua Torres, came in to speak with the students about the special day. Lacy served in the Air Force for eight years. He told the students that the average age of men and women in the military today is between 18 and 22.

It was an interactive discussion, with the students having some questions for him, including why he joined the military and what was his favorite thing to do in the Air Force.

The students enjoyed listening to Lacy and thanked him for coming in and speaking to them about Veterans Day. They also thanked him for his service to the United States and extended their gratitude to all of the men and women who serve.
John Lacy tells second graders Mimi Benjamin, Jayden Lewis,
Andelenia Granito, and Joshua Torres about the flags that he brought in.
