The Monticello Junior & Senior High Jazz Bands rocked the house at the 27th Annual Liberty Jazz Festival on Saturday, Feb. 1.
The event featured an open master class clinic with professional musician and trumpet player Nick Lieto. Mr. Lieto is a music educator and well-known jazz performer from the Capital Region. After working in a round robin clinic format with each ensemble, the groups reconvened and performed their prepared pieces to a packed audience, ending with a combined collaboration of the classic hit “Gimme Some Lovin”.
Junior saxophonist Jasper Hance described the event, saying “I had great experience at Jazz Fest all around, from working with the guest musician to listening to all the other bands. I also enjoyed talking to other student musicians from other schools.” Percussionist Kiamesha Camacho-Torres said “The clinician was nice easy to learn from, and the energy of the event was very lively and enriching.”
Congratulations to our student musicians & faculty on their hard work and preparation for this exciting collaborative event!
