Monticello educators joined other community members from around Sullivan County for an intensive two-and-a-half-day ChildLight Yoga and Yoga4Classrooms training, courtesy of the Cornell Cooperative Extension Sullivan County and funded by a grant from the NYS Department of Health.
According to SueAnn Boyd, who is the Healthy Schools Coordinator at Cornell Cooperative Extension, and was the lead coordinator of the training, ChildLight Yoga and Yoga4 Classrooms provides evidence- informed yoga and mindfulness education to youth and training and resources for professionals to support their well- being.
George L. Cooke Elementary School Social and Emotional Wellness Facilitator Elisa Mendels, who already uses yoga and mindfulness techniques in her work with students, lauded the training.
“I definitely learned new tools to help students manage their emotions in and out of the classroom,” she said.
