The transportation department at Monticello Central School District welcomed a new leadership duo this fall. Robin Sklar and Tonya Newcomb have joined the Monticello team as Director of Transportation and Assistant Director of Transportation, respectively.
The pair brings decades of experience in school transportation to their new roles. Both began as bus drivers and sought new opportunities and experiences as their careers progressed – moving from drivers, to trainers to instructors to administrators.
“Becoming a school bus driver has let me grow throughout the years with the students that I drove,” Ms. Newcomb said. “I had them as passengers, then went to their high school graduations, then to some of their weddings and then to meeting their children.”
“Our transportation department plays an enormous role in our district,” Superintendent for Business Lisa Failla said. “Not only do they get our students to and from school safely every day, they’re also the ones warming up our buses at the break of dawn in the winter, or bringing our students on field trips to have new experiences or getting our athletes to their games and practices. We are grateful to all of our transportation employees and are excited to have Ms. Sklar and Ms. Newcomb join us.”
“Children’s safety is the utmost importance of my job and field,” Ms. Sklar said. “I am honored to be a part of the Monticello CSD team and look forward to working with everyone for many years to come.”
