The Monticello Central School District recently welcomed Ivory Coleman as Director of School Safety and Assistant Principal at Monticello High School.
Mr. Coleman brings a robust background in educational leadership, with more than two decades of experience to his new role. He served as Assistant Principal at CIS 339 in the Bronx from 2007 to 2022, where he led the math and science departments, developed and enhanced curricular and extracurricular programs, and fostered a positive school culture. Prior to that, he was a teacher at PS/MS 31 in the Bronx from 2002 to 2007, focusing on developing lessons aligned with state standards and incorporating technology. His career began in school safety supervision, where he managed teams and collaborated with the New York Police Department (NYPD). Ivory holds a Master’s in Building Leadership and is currently pursuing a Doctorate in Curriculum & Instruction, expected in 2025. He holds permanent certifications as a School District Administrator and School Administrator/Supervisor.
Mr. Coleman discovered Monticello while serving as a regional summer administrator in a nearby district, and was drawn to the community’s diversity and commitment to resolve it’s challenges.
“When I looked into Monticello and met with both Dr. Evans and the hiring committee, I was sold,” he said. “This was the place I wanted to be, and in this brief stint, I know I made a great decision.”
Mr. Coleman has been in his new role since the beginning of the 2024-25 school year, and is looking forward to building relationships with students, staff and the surrounding community in the hopes of building a school district that nurtures and educates students to be the best version of themselves and become successful citizens who will make a difference in the world.
Outside of the school day, this avid sports fan can be found cheering on the Mets, Jets, and the Nets.
“That’s right, I’m the one who always cheers on the underdogs,” he said. “As I continue to cheer on the underdogs, Let’s go Panthers!”
