Substitute Teaching is a Great Fit For:
- Parents of MCSD students (work the same schedule as your child’s)
- College students – work during breaks or before/after class
- Retirees – (work at your leisure)
- Anyone seeking a job that allows for flexibility and choice. Work as often, or as little, as you choose. Half-day shifts are available.
What we offer
Our substitutes enjoy the freedom and flexibility to choose their own schedule, and a competitive daily rate.
Substitute rates are based on your educational level as follows:
- Non-certified teacher (high school diploma required) – $105 per day (days 1-29); $115 (30+ days)
- NY State Certified with Bachelor’s Degree – $120 per day (days 1-29); $130 (30+ days)
- NY State Certified with Master’s Degree – $140 per day (days 1-29); $150 (30+ days)
- Retired Certified Teacher / District – $150 per day (days 1 – 29); $160 (30+ days)
- Administrator – $205 per day (days 1-29); $210 (30+ days)
Floating per-diem subs earn $200/day and are guaranteed 175 days per year
If the position is available, certified teachers may also apply for a “floating per-diem substitute teacher” position. These positions pay $200 per day, well above the county’s average daily rate of $113 for a certified substitute with a bachelor’s degree. These positions guarantee 175 days of work in the school year, offer the opportunity for substitutes to enroll in the district’s health insurance, and invite substitutes to participate in professional development opportunities.
Each floating substitute is assigned to a specific building to help nurture a strong bond with the school’s staff and provide familiarity and continuity for the students.
A floating per-diem substitute position is an excellent opportunity for up-and-coming teachers to become a part of a school community, enhance their classroom skills, receive high-quality, free professional development, and provide a consistent reliable source of income.
