The National Weather Service has also issued an air quality alert in the local area through 12 p.m. on Thursday, June 8. Due to the forecast for “poor” air quality, the Monticello Central School District will continue to implement the following precautions on Thursday, June 8, in accordance with best practices outlined by the New York State Center for School Health:
- Outdoor student and staff activities will be limited to essential activities, only. These include entry and dismissal to/from school, and emergency evacuations (if needed). All other outdoor activities such as physical education, recess, and outdoor facilities/grounds work are canceled until further notice.
- All windows for classrooms, buses, and offices will remain closed. Air conditioning and other ventilation will operate as usual, per NYSED guidance.
- Any outdoor activities associated with field trips are canceled. Therefore, the Emma C. Chase Elementary School field trip to Museum Village has been cancelled.
- Students and staff may wear face masks to help mitigate the effects of the air quality if they choose to do so.
