The MBK Culturally Responsive Book Club will take place once a week in each building, and split between children in grades K-2 and 3-5. Each book club will be led by an adult professional using a co-teaching model.
Students will be broken up into small reading groups with all groups sharing multiple copies of the same book. Each group will take turns reading the book out loud together. The books will then be used to generate meaningful discussion with the MBK mentors related to the topic of the book.
The goal of this program is to improve reading abilities by exposing them to one new culturally responsive book every week throughout their entire elementary career.
