With as many as 60 Monticello teens and tweens showing up each day to the St. John Street School Community HUB, it’s safe to say the program’s launch has been a successful one.
However, with as many as 60 Monticello teens and tweens showing up each day to the St. John Street School Community HUB, the HUB is seeking volunteers to help supervise and engage the youth, as well as donations of furniture, board games, snacks and other activities.
“It’s been very popular among the kids – it’s a good problem to have,” HUB Coordinator Martin Colavito said. “We’re expanding the size of the “living room” area to accommodate more kids at once and could could definitely use volunteers who are interested in supervising the kids through actively engaging with them, as well as furniture to make the room more comfortable and home-like.”
Volunteers are needed during the hours of 1:30 to 7:30 p.m. on weekdays, and can commit to as little as one hour per week. Although high school volunteers seeking community service hours are welcome to inquire about possibly volunteering in other capacities, those wishing to volunteer to supervise the students must be over 18 and can not be a current high school student.
The HUB is also accepting donations of snacks, drinks, and other amenities for its teen/tween activities. Please contact Marty Colavito via email at mc2224@cornell.edu to discuss.
