Students at the George L. Cooke Elementary School had the opportunity to learn more about the many people and organizations that work together to keep the Monticello community safe and running during the school’s Touch-A-Truck Day on Wednesday, Oct. 30.
Representatives from a host of local agencies brought themselves and their trucks to the school, giving students the opportunity to tour the trucks and ask questions about the vehicles and their drivers.
Participating agencies included:
- Rock Hill Fire Department
- Rock Hill Volunteer Ambulance Corps
- Town of Thompson Highway Department
- New York Truck Parts
- Monticello Fire Department
- United States Postal Service
- Monticello Police Department
- Sullivan County Sherrif’s Office
- New York State Police
- Mobile Medic EMS
“These men and women make our community a better place – not just because of the everyday work that they do, but also because of their willingness to take the time out of their hectic schedules to work with our students,” Principal Chris Palmer said. “Our kids left today’s event inspired, excited and knowing that they’re surrounded by people who care about them and their future. On behalf of the entire Cooke school, I thank them for their support.”
