Free tax preparation services available through AOF’s VITA program

Press release courtesy of the MHS Academy of Finance:

Monticello High School (MHS) is proud to once again host the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program for the 2025 tax season.

VITA provides free tax preparation services for families with household incomes less than $67,000 in 2024 at no cost to taxpayers.

IRS-certified student volunteers from the Academy of Finance (AOF) provide basic income tax preparation and electronic filing for eligible individuals. Students have worked hard to master tax law and earn their IRS certification.

In 2024, MHS/AOF assisted with 160 tax returns, saving the Monticello community approximately $37,985 in preparation fees. 2025 will be the 18th year that the program has been offered at MHS.

VITA services will be available at Monticello High School on Wednesdays, from February 5 until April 9 from 2:30 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. Saturday hours are also available on February 8, March 1, and March 29 from 9:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m.

To schedule an appointment, call Monticello High School at 845-794-8840, extension 10966.
