Students at the Robert J. Kaiser Middle School learned the importance of communication, decision-making, listening and team work with a fun activity courtesy of Health Education Teacher Katie Alvarez and long-term Home and Careers Substitute Teacher Matthew Somarelli.
The two created a grid, or “path” on the floor and then invited two teams of students to make it across. Students had to use trial and error, observation and memory skills to learn the path, and then communicate the correct steps to their teammates – without using any kind of verbal communication. The first team to successfully navigate the path won a prize.
“It was great to see students stepping up, taking on leadership roles, paying such close attention and assisting their teammates with the activity,” Ms. Alvarez said.
