Kenneth L. Rutherford Elementary School Speech Pathologist Julia Zanger celebrated National Speech-Language-Hearing Month with her students all May long. According to the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASLHA), National Speech-Language-Hearing Month (formerly known as Better Speech and Hearing Month) is an opportunity to raise awareness about communication disorders and the role of professionals who provide life-altering treatment to those affected by these disorders.
At KLR, Ms. Zanger organized fun activities such as trivia contests, goodies and a scavenger hunt throughout the month. She hung messages throughout the school using IPA, and invited students to use an IPA cheat sheet to transcribe them for a chance at winning a prize. Students also participated in a poster contest, and to wrap up the month, Ms. Zanger organized a breakfast full of treats for staff members to enjoy while they voted on the best posters.
The winners are:
3rd grade- Kimberly Morales-Bonilla
4th grade- Tiney Diaz
5th grade- Torion Lindsay
Congratulations to all!
