Our 30-year tradition of the Monticello High School Thanksgiving Food Drive continues this year with a new spin. In prior years, first period classes competed to see which class could raise the most money, now time is money.
The first period class with the best, on time, attendance from Monday, Nov. 13 to Monday, Nov. 20 will earn a delicious breakfast cooked by our building principals. The most punctual class will be announced at the annual MHS Food Drive Assembly on Nov.21, 2023. This new strategy acknowledges that not all students can give monetarily but they can give their time, and be on time, in their role as a student in our community.
The food drive committee this year will be in collaboration with the Student Council officers, which is a new partnership, in an effort to increase service involvement within our school community. Monticello alumni teachers interviewed 13 students who applied to be on the committee. The nostalgia surrounding how they felt when they were students at MHS guided their process to select the committee this year.
An open call for students to submit t-shirt designs to commemorate the annual event yielded seven submissions, and one was chosen. The winning design will be revealed on the morning of the assembly day. Students and staff can purchase the mystery design soon!
The committee is asking for donations of laundry baskets which will hold all the complete meal packages distributed to our community. We need 100 laundry baskets. If you wish to donate some baskets, please drop them at the high school main office to Katie Alvarez’s attention by Nov. 16.
