The Kenneth L. Rutherford Elementary School held its monthly assembly on Oct. 30, 2023 to recognize some hard-working students and staff, and to celebrate one of the most ubiquitous fruits of upstate New York.
Principal Veronica Serrano announced all of the students of the month, and presented each one with a certificate. Omnia Elghaly was recognized as the October employee of the month for her hard work in organizing the annual “Whip Pediatric Cancer” initiative.
After the recognitions were complete, the students then participated in the “Big Apple Crunch.” The Big Apple Crunch is an initiative held each year by the FarmOn! Foundation that is designed to promote healthy eating among students, as well as highlight the bounty of New York state. The Monticello food services department provided each student and staff member with an apple, while student presenters announced facts about farming in NY state. When the presentation was over, the entire auditorium simultaneously bit into their apples, with a satisfying “crunch.”
