Congratulations to Meg Cruz and Irvin Oestrich who’ve been selected as Monticello High School’s Senior Scholar-Athletes for the Orange County Interscholastic Athletic Association (OCIAA). The award is given to high school seniors “who have distinguished themselves in the classroom and in the athletic arena.” They were honored on Thursday, June 1 at the annual OCIAA Awards Breakfast.
Meg plays soccer and indoor/outdoor track and field. She’s participated in the senior all-star soccer game and was the captain for the track and field team. She is a member of the National Honor Society, and performs community service for children during the holidays. She is off to SUNY Delhi to major in nursing and play for the Delhi Track and Field team.
Irvin plays cross country, wrestling and baseball. He is the team captain for both the wrestling and baseball teams, and the president of the National Honor Society. He is a member of the Smallwood Monguap Valley Fire Department and participates in the Town of Bethel Youth Running Program. Next year, he will attend SUNY Binghamton and major in Engineering.
