At our January 12, 2022, informational meeting from 5:00-6:00 pm, the individuals present reviewed the differences between a PTA and a PTO, along with the inclusion of students, and decided to move forward with a PTSO (Parent-Teacher-Student Organization). We also discussed the potential benefits of becoming a 501-c3 and the potential ways in which money could be raised. In addition, we decided to create a hybrid meeting, with in-person and remote attendance available, to create more inclusive and accessible opportunities for others to attend.
At our January 26, 2022, PTSO meeting from 5:00-6:00 pm, the individuals present discussed whether to pursue being a 501-c3 organization. The intent of the PTSO is to pursue that pathway. At the meeting, we also discussed the need to select a President, Secretary, and Treasurer for the PTSO. In addition, we also discussed the potential purpose of the PTSO which included fundraising to benefit the high school experience for all students, advocacy (again to improve the high school experience for all students), and communication (recruitment, celebration, support). Finally, we talked about what potential goals could look like and considering primary, secondary, and tertiary goals.
The next PTSO meeting will be on February 9, 2022, at 5:30 pm.
