First-grade students in Ms. Dutcher and Miss D’Agata’s class had the opportunity to work outside as part of their SEW (Social Emotional Wellness) class time. SEW Facilitator, Mrs. Mendels, taught students all about soil, including how worms help enrich the soil and why it’s important to turn soil to help vegetables grow. The students even got to taste the fruits of their labor — the Cooke cafeteria used some of the vegetables to dish up the school’s salad on Friday, Oct. 15
The Cooke garden is made possible through the Catskill Edible Garden project, with help from Sullivan Renaissance and Cornell Cooperative Extension Sullivan County.
