The district recently used funds received from the Elementary & Secondary School Emergency Relief Fund (ESSER) and Governors Emergency Education Relief (GEER) to purchase HEPA H13 filters, which have been installed in classrooms throughout the district. These Medify Air filters remove 99.9% of particles down to 0.1 microns, improving air quality in the buildings.
The ESSER and GEER are part of stimulus funds established by Congress in response to the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020 to fund expenditures that allow schools to operate within the required health and safety guidelines. The district received $1.7 million from these funding sources, which, under state law, it may use for particular expenses associated with the COVID-19 pandemic. The district can not use these funds for annual operating expenses.
In addition to these new air filters, the district has thus far used ESSER and GEER funds to purchase a variety of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), disinfectant, mask, face shields, gowns, gloves, disinfecting supplies, hand sanitizer, dispensers and sneeze guards.
