On the afternoon of Tuesday April 20, a physical altercation occurred outside of the building during dismissal involving several students from Monticello High School and Robert J. Kaiser Middle School, as well as several other adults who are neither Monticello CSD students nor staff. While intervening and attempting to de-escalate the situation, a member of the Monticello CSD security team was injured. The individual received medical treatment for minor injuries and is expected to fully recover.
Monticello Police Department responded to the scene and have arrested one adult in connection with the incident, which remains under investigation.
Monticello High School administration is also investigating the incident. Any Monticello CSD student who is found to have violated the District’s Code of Conduct will be subject to discipline in accordance with the district’s Code of Conduct.
“Our top priority at the district is always the safety of our students and staff,” commented Matthew T. Evans, Superintendent of Schools. “We take these events seriously, and will enforce discipline for any students who acted inappropriately, or threatened or harmed others. I appreciate the prompt efforts of our administration, security, and other staff to respond to the situation, as well as the response from the Monticello Police Department.”
