Monticello Hall of Distinction looks for new committee members

The Monticello Central School District Hall of Distinction committee is searching for new members.

Committee members help find deserving nominees, participate in the decision making on which nominees are selected for the honor, and facilitate the process, getting the nominees ready for the annual ceremony.

“Working on the Hall of Distinction committee is truly an honor,” said Lori Orestano-James, chairperson of the committee, as well as president of the Monticello Board of Education. “We meet and learn about those who were nurtured here in Monticello and went on to do wonderful things professionally or in their communities.”

In order to be considered for a position on the Hall of Distinction committee, applicants must:

  • Be a graduate of Monticello High School;
  • Live in the Monticello Central School District;
  • Have graduated from MHS a minimum of 15 years ago.

The physical Hall of Distinction is located in the lobby outside of the Arnold Packer Hughs Auditorium in Monticello High School. The ceremony to honor inductees takes place on the first Friday in November with the entire high school student body in attendance, as well as community members. Plaques hang on the wall with each inductee’s photo and biography.

“We know there are members of our community who would like to serve on this committee, honoring those who have brought pride and success to Monticello,” Orestano-James said. “We look forward to adding to our committee, people with Monti pride bringing new ideas and suggestions and making Hall of Distinction even better than before.”

Those who meet the requirements listed above who wish to be part of the committee are asked to email their letter of intent to hod.mcsd@gmail.com or mail it to Lori Orestano-James, Monticello Central School District Hall of Distinction, 60 Jefferson St., Suite 3, Monticello, NY 12701. Please submit your request by Friday, Feb. 19, 2021

The Hall of Distinction was established by the board of education in 2013 and honors highly successful alumni, former board of education members and employees who have made significant contributions and/or achieved outstanding accomplishments.
