The Toy Drive of 2020 looks very different for our MHS community than it has for its more than 30 years of existence. Here are a few words about it from Principal Stephen Wilder.
Traditionally, we have had classroom competitions, a joyous holiday assembly with singing, dancing, and uplifting announcements, and Santa and his Elf Brigade delivering wish list items to the three and four-year-old students at Head Start.
This year, as with a multitude of other events, the Toy Drive also needed to remain safe for all involved. Donations from the Monticello High School faculty and staff provided 64 holiday stockings, one for each child attending Head Start. Karen Collura, the Toy Drive advisor, sanitized the items and assembled all of the stockings for the children. Each stocking contained age-appropriate goodies including a coloring book, Play-Doh, crayons, and a mini Paw Patrol buddy.
Mrs. Collura and Monticello High Principal, Stephen Wilder quietly delivered the fun-filled stockings to Head Start on Tuesday, Dec. 22, 2020. They were met at the door by a few staff members who gratefully accepted the gifts on behalf of their students and took them inside to surprise their students.
Happy holidays from the faculty and staff at Monticello High School. Here’s to 2021!
