A message from Superintendent of Schools Dr. Matthew Evans:
Dear Monticello CSD Community Member,
On Saturday, December 19, the district was notified that a staff member at Robert J. Kaiser Middle School tested positive for COVID-19, and that a transportation staff member was symptomatic and tested for COVID- 19. These cases are unrelated.
The transportation staff member expects to receive their COVID-19 tests results by December 22. A tentative list from this staff member shows approximately 12 other transportation staff as contacts, nine of which are drivers. Though the employee has yet to receive a test result, we are treating it as if it were positive. The symptomatic transportation staff member had no contacts with students.
We are still completing the contact list for the RJK Middle School staff member. This employee was at work on December 18, and had contacts with students and staff. As soon as we have this completed list, we will report it to Sullivan County Public Health.
Contacts of confirmed positive cases will be notified by New York State Department of Health and will most likely be quarantined through their office.
Due to this loss in staffing in transportation, and the need to clean and disinfect the affected areas, all Monticello CSD schools will be switched to remote instruction, only, on December 21 and 22. Students will also receive remote instruction on Wednesday, December 23, as planned.
As a reminder, all students and staff are off on holiday break from December 24 through January 3.
If you or your child are experiencing symptoms of COVID-19, please contact your health care provider. For more information on contact tracing and illness management, please review the New York State Department of Health’s Pre-K to Grade 12 COVID-19 Toolkit.
We hope that these staff members, the affiliated contacts, and all of you remain healthy during this special time of year.
On behalf of Monticello CSD, I wish you and your families a happy and healthy holidays, and a happy New Year!
With Monti Pride,
Matthew T. Evans, Ed. D. Superintendent of Schools
