Hybrid Model Examples for Cohorts A and B
Arrival
Walkers:
Students who walk to school will report to their assigned entrance at the front of the high school building. Their assigned entrance will be determined by their classroom assignment and will be one of three entrances (200 wing entrance, 600 wing entrance, or MS lower 100 wing entrance).
Student Drop Off:
Students who will be driven to school in a personal vehicle will arrive on the Route 42/Gymnasium/Auditorium side of the building near our Registration entrance. Students must be dropped off in the designated corral. The student will complete the health screening at the vehicle consisting of a short series of questions and a temperature check. Answers to the questions that reveal a possible COVID concern or a temperature of 100℉ or higher will result in non-admittance.
Bus Drop Off:
When students get off their bus they will report to their assigned entrance at the front of the high school building. Their assigned entrance will be determined by their classroom assignment and will be one of three entrances (200 wing entrance, 600 wing entrance, or MS lower 100 wing entrance).
Students will move directly from their assigned entrance to the building to their assigned classroom. No additional stops to other locations in the building are acceptable. Bathrooms will be closed and locked upon arrival. Access to the bathroom will be arranged after the students arrive to their classrooms. Accommodations will be made as per IEP’s and emergency situations.
Common Experiences for All Students:
- Students will stand 6 feet apart, in a line, while waiting to enter the building. Masks must be worn covering their nose and mouth. Compliance is mandatory. Students will be considered insubordinate if they are intentional in not complying with the appropriate wearing of facial coverings, covering the nose and mouth, and will not be allowed to attend in-person.
- Students will complete our health screening consisting of a short series of questions and a temperature check. Answers to the questions that reveal a possible COVID concern or a temperature of 100℉ or higher will result in non-admittance. In the event this happens students will report to the high school health station.
- Students will not be allowed to attend in-person unless they successfully complete (or pass) the daily screening and temperature-taking procedures.
- Following the health screening and upon entering the building students will pick up their “grab-and-go” breakfast and proceed directly to their assigned classroom. Eating and drinking is only permitted in their assigned classroom and at their assigned workspace at designated times.
- When students arrive at their assigned classroom they will be expected to use hand sanitizer* and go directly to their assigned workspace. At the workspace students will place their lunch order. The student will then eat their breakfast and prepare for their academic program.
- Students who are intentional in behaving in a manner that puts others at risk, or might reasonably cause another individual to fear of being at risk for contracting COVID -19, such as intentionally coughing on or toward another person, spitting on or toward another person, etc., may receive discipline in alignment with the definition of Reckless Endangerment which will result in a 5-day suspension and referral for a 3214 Superintendent’s hearing.
- Headwear is not allowed to be worn in the building unless for documented and approved medical or religious purposes.
- Students who have an approved medical allergy or sensitivity to hand sanitizer may use their own hand sanitizer or will be provided with an opportunity to wash their hands with soap and water.
Classroom Experiences
Students will be assigned to a single classroom and workspace for the duration of their school day. With few exceptions, students will not change classrooms. These assignments will be created to group students with the same courses and teacher as closely as possible to increase meaningful and relevant student-teacher contact time. We are prioritizing the use of tables, or combining desks, to provide ample workspace for students.
The chairs where students will be sitting will be 6 feet apart, but their workspaces will not be separated by 6 feet. There will likely be between 6 and 15 students per classroom space depending on the size of the room. Students will be required to wear a mask, covering their nose and mouth, at all times as we are unable to ensure 6 feet of separation at all times between students due to the nature of students moving. The exceptions include the scheduled “mask breaks” and while eating or drinking.
Classroom Safety Considerations
- Students are not permitted to touch other students’ workspaces or items on those workspaces.
- Students will be provided with “mask breaks” when they will be able to remove their mask when the distance of 6 feet between students can be maintained. This is likely to occur outdoors in the fresh air whenever the weather allows. During inclement weather “mask breaks” will be conducted indoors with strict adherence to the required minimum of 6 feet of separation between students.
- Students will eat their lunch at their assigned workspace following its delivery from the cafeteria. Disinfectant wipes will be provided for students to clean their workspaces. Students will also be given an opportunity to wash their hands with soap and water prior to and following each meal. Students may bring their own lunch with them to school. Deliveries of outside food to the school are not allowed. Students may also bring their own water bottles as water fountains will be closed and water bottle refilling stations will be available.
Traveling Through Hallways
Students will be required to wear their mask, covering their nose and mouth, at all times. Visual cues and written signage will be posted throughout the building to provide clear guidance for student movement with floor markings to reinforce 6 foot spacing where waiting may occur. To minimize the number of students and staff in common spaces, like hallways, students and staff will adhere to a transition schedule when applicable.
A visual item, such as tape, will be placed in the middle of the hallways to reinforce student movement and promote physical distancing. Signage will be posted on walls and in bathrooms to go over the steps for hand washing.
Students may not “add on” stops if provided with permission to go to a space outside the classroom. For example, a student with permission to go see their guidance counselor may not “stop by” the bathroom going to or from that location. Each location requires separate permission to monitor student movement and the number of students at each location. Entrances to all bathrooms will be supervised to manage occupancy.
Eating and drinking is not allowed in the hallway or any other portion of the building outside of the students assigned classroom workspace.
Departure
At the end of the day students will pack up all of their items and be escorted from the building, out the way they came in, when their bus has arrived. Classrooms will be dismissed on a schedule to reduce congestion in the hallways. Students will continue to wear their masks, covering their nose and mouth, and not make physical contact with others or surfaces on their way out of the building. Students will walk to their bus, or walk home, from the front of the high school building. Students are expected to use their judgement to remain physically distanced and masked while traveling to their bus and waiting to board their bus.
Students who are being picked up will report to the Route 42 side of the building and physically distance themselves as they wait for their ride to arrive. Students who have permission to drive to school will have parking assigned at the Route 42 side of the building and will exit to their vehicle through their assigned exit. Students are required to appropriately wear their masks, covering their nose and mouth, while on school property, even outdoors, and in proximity to other students.
MCSD Safety professionals will be present to promote the safe arrival and dismissal of students.

Remote Learning Days:
The schedules presented for remote learning days are samples only and do not reflect what every student will have for their schedule. Student schedules vary according to their selected courses and when they will be offered.
Student Schedules:
Student schedules are anticipated to be developed during the weeks of August 24th through September 11th based on the commitment we receive from parents/guardians regarding their student’s learning model (Fully Remote or Hybrid). Guidance counselors will be calling students and parents/guardians during this period of time to resolve any conflicts.
The specific times for the daily period structure has not been decided on yet.
