MHS students selected for NYSSMA All-State Music Festival

Sept 18, 2017

Four Monticello High School students have been recognized for musical excellence and named to the New York State School Music Association (NYSSMA) All-State music ensemble performance at the annual Winter Festival held in Rochester, NY, Sunday, Dec. 3.

Monisse Cueva, a student of MHS High School Band director Andrew Verdino, will be playing Oboe in the Symphony Orchestra concert.

Edward Spear will be singing Bass 1 in the Mixed Chorus, Bella Lovett will be singing Soprano 1 and Annay Ames-Shaw will be singing Alto 1 in the Treble Chorus. All three vocalists are students of MHS High School Chorus Director Marissa Jurow.

Bella Lovett has been chosen for All-State for the second straight year. Monticello Central School District has a comprehensive performing arts program that includes Dance, Concert Band, Chorus, String Orchestra, General Music, Jazz, Chamber, Guitar and Piano programs and has been selected by the NAMM foundation as a “Best Community for Music Education” eight times.

Having four students selected to participate in the annual festival of the state’s most dedicated music students is extraordinary for a district the size of Monticello.
