Interim Athletic Director Cioffi steps up to the plate

Aug. 22, 2017

Life is a lot like baseball. A great hitter is only successful three out of every ten times. It’s not about HOW you miss or WHY you miss but how you are able to bounce back and be a great player.

And so, after a few strikeouts, the Monticello Central School District has finally hit a home run with its new interim Athletic Director, Mr. Louis Cioffi III.

Mr. Cioffi comes off the bench and up to bat at Monticello after having already enjoyed a rich and rewarding career as a coach, athletic director and entrepreneur for nearly 40 years.

Prior to his retirement in 2012, Mr. Cioffi also coached baseball, football and basketball. He used his experience as a longtime coach and athletic director at Albany Academy and the Averill Park Central School District to establish the Capital Region’s Sam Perkins-Lou Cioffi Basketball Camp, where he was director for 20 years.

He’s had the privilege of being named Who's Who in American Education (four times – in 1998, 2004, 2005 and 2007) and holds a permanent place in the Albany Academy Athletic Hall of Fame and of Albany Twilight Semi Pro-Baseball League Hall of Fame. In addition to his time in athletics, he has held faculty positions in social studies.

Mr. Cioffi retired from Cornwall Schools in June of 2012, after having served as the district’s Director of Physical Education and Athletics for nine years. Since his retirement, he has served as an Interim Athletic Director for Hyde Park and Onteora schools.

"I look forward to working with the student-athletes, coaches, teachers, administrators, and parents in bringing an improved vision to their athletic programs,” Mr. Cioffi said. “Thus far, I am impressed with the district's cooperation in achieving progress within their athletic program."
