The Earth Guardians have a new slant on a "Giving Tree"

Sept. 9, 2016

The Earth Guardians of Sullivan County, at the Robert J. Kaiser Middle School, have a new slant on the holiday theme of a “Giving Tree.”

Students have done such an incredible job growing organic produce using their indoor tower growing garden, that they have been able to invite the school community into their space to cut fresh lettuce, spinach, arugula and Swiss chard, for their holiday meal.Students have done such an incredible job growing organic produce using their indoor tower growing garden, that they have been able to invite the school community into their space to cut fresh lettuce, spinach, arugula and Swiss chard, for their holiday meal.

The students planted and cared for the crops as part of their eating healthy program. Some of the produce is used in their “Eat Smart New York” nutrition program as well. The students are participating in a nutrition program where they learn about healthy eating, exercise, and creating healthy communities! Cornell Cooperative Extension and Sullivan Renaissance are partnering with the students in the Boys and Girls Club, and the students in The Earth Guardians of Sullivan County, to educate and support the community on the benefits of a nutritious life style including a low salt, low fat, high fiber and highly active program of exercise.

The Earth Guardians would like to wish everyone in our community a happy and HEALTHY holiday season, and we wish you joy, happiness, and success in all that you do!
