Monticello Builders Club spends holiday season serving others

Dec. 20, 2016

The holiday season is a particularly busy time for the Robert J. Kaiser Middle School Builders Club, student-led community service organization sponsored by the Kiwanis Club of Monticello.

This month, Builders Club members have…
participated in the district’s holiday toy drive;
adopted students and families for gift exchanges;
shopped for and wrapped over 100 gifts for their adoptive families;*
decorated hand-written holiday greeting cards for veterans who reside in various Sullivan County nursing homes;
collected winter weather attire for the United Way of Sullivan County; and
honored their beloved faculty club advisor and teacher Mr. Oefelein by singing happy birthday and enjoying colorfully iced cupcakes,

while Monticello High School Key Club members have also participated in the district's holiday toy drive and have also volunteered for the Salvation Army Red Kettle Campaign as bell ringers. The Key Club is also sponsored by the Kiwanis Club of Monticello.

*The Builders Club would like to thank those who helped raise funds for the gifts. Proceeds came from school dance funds, individual donations from several of the Builders Club members and advisors as well as Monticello Kiwanis Club members who wanted to help out with this project.
