Kiwanis Club helps children get access to books and reading opportunities

June 22, 2016

Every child should experience the joy of reading. Kiwanis members of the Monticello branch believe this, and have implemented a reading program for second grade students at the Kenneth L. Rutherford Elementary School.

At the start and end of the 2015-16 school year, members from the Kiwanis Club of Monticello provided free books and literacy resources to students to share with their families.

“We provide these assemblies as a way to reminder students about the need to read every day, even when school is out,” EPIC Program Director and Kiwanis President of Monticello Club Jane Sorensen said.

Former Rutherford teacher and Kiwanis Member Doris Motl organizes this program each year for the second grade students.
