Position & school(s): Monticello High School Music Teacher

How long have you been teaching? 27 years. How long at Monticello? 24 years.

Where did you go to college? SUNY Fredonia BM in Piano Performance and BM in Music Education, Ohio State University. What degrees do you hold?  MA in Studio Piano Pedagogy with minor in Music for the Exceptional Child.

Any awards/accomplishments? Any claims to fame? National Guild of Piano Teachers, Chairperson, National Guild of Piano Teachers Honors member for 20 years, National Guild of Piano Teachers judge in Superior Standing. NYSSMA Judge, Published in Promising Practices in High School Music and MENC Publication. National Federation of Music Teachers Weekend of Chamber Music Advisory Board member.

What’s your favorite part of your job? The kids.

Why did you become a music teacher? Love of music and the desire to pass it on.

Did you do anything else before you became a music teacher? No

In your opinion, why do you think music education is important? Music and other Art forms is what puts the civil in civilization. People need to be passionate about something or apathy will rule the world. The study of an Art Form brings discipline to a child’s life and builds the work ethic our country was founded on.

How has music influenced your life? Music gave me a focus. It was the common thread that allowed us to build strong family ties. Music gives me an outlet when I have to accept what I cannot control. Music is always there.

Who is your favorite musician? JS BACH a close second, Domenico Scarlatti.

What CD is in your CD player right now? The Art of the Fugue by JS Bach.

What are your hobbies? Gardening and Cooking.

What advice would you offer to an aspiring musician? Go after you dream. You never know, but be willing to rise above failures and work hard.
