Details about individual programs
All elementary schools use parents as volunteers for a variety of
activities. Last year at the Duggan School, five parents and grandparents
worked two hours per week for five hours each day with students on reading
and math skills.
Parents can also help the schools by joining PTO or PTA groups at
the elementary and middle schools. These groups sponsor activities
such as sponsoring book fairs, providing funding for assemblies
(anti-bullying, African Drums and Dance, Family Puppet Night, Meet the
Author night), purchasing playground equipment, assignment pads,
sponsoring Achievement Night at the Middle School, and supporting the
libraries.
Parents are notified of school events by parent newsletters, sent by
the district and the individual schools. All schools send monthly or
bimonthly newsletters to parents, and the district sends quarterly
newsletters for each grade level: elementary, middle school, and high
school. A community newsletter is sent quarterly.
