Over sixty-five elementary staff members have been trained in this 24
hour workshop which helps educators develop a classroom climate and
culture in which students will become more responsible for their behavior
and for improving social interactions with peers and adults.
The following topics were covered:
- How to conduct morning meetings with activities that will promote
development of a sense of community
- Activities for the development of social skills dealing with anger,
put-downs, making friends, working in groups, and problem solving
- Modeling and role playing scenarios for being a good listener,
dealing with power struggles, and sharing
- How to use the first three to six weeks of school to communicate and
practice rules, work habits, consequences, and social
skills.
